19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
